Linked app messages (push notifications) are instant messages sent to users' phones that contain a direct link to a particular page or item on the app. Linked messages are the best way to ensure parents and carers see important information that you have published on your app. When users receive the message they are presented with an option to view.
App messages can be sent with direct links to:
- Web hyperlink NEW (see section below)
- Calendar events
- News items
- Documents
- Consent (if activated)
- Videos (if activated)
How do I send a linked message from the portal?
There are two ways to send a linked message:
- Go to App Messaging, enter your text as usual. Now select an option from the Message target drop down list
Select the item you'd like parents to view when they receive the message. Then just click SEND as usual. - From a particular news item, calendar event or document. Once you have the item open in the portal, scroll to the bottom of the page. You'll see the button SEND A LINKED MESSAGE ABOUT THE NEWS ITEM/EVENT/DOCUMENT
Clicking this button will automatically assign the news item or event being viewed in the portal and take you to the App messaging page.
Sending a web hyperlink
To send a web hyperlink (also known as the url), type your message as usual. Do not include the web address in the App message but enter it in the Message target field.
Copy and paste the entire address from a publicly accessible page in web hyperlink field
When app users receive your message the linked web page will open in the app when the message is tapped
